Have you ever been concerned about getting your kids to read books outside the school syllabus? But how do we get them excited about cracking open a book in a world overflowing with digital distractions?
As a parent, you might find it hard to set up a routine with many extracurricular activities. You all want your kids to have their noses buried in a good book, but let’s be honest, between sports practice, music lessons, and the never-ending homework battle, carving out reading time can feel impossible. And with tablets and phones flashing in their faces, good luck getting them excited about a dusty old book!

But Let’s be real! It’s not an impossible task. Here are 5 Tips to ignite your kid’s love of Reading:
Be a Bookworm yourself: Kids are like little sponges, soaking up everything we do. If they see you curled up with a good book, it sends a powerful message: reading is cool! Make it a habit to read for pleasure yourself, even if it’s just for 20 minutes a day.
Make reading a joyful experience: Kids usually associate books with a burden because of the pressure buildup in school with books. But at home, you can make the experience good. Let the kids choose the book that piques their interest whether it’s arts, science, robotics, fairytales, or stories. Turn the reading session into a dramatic tale with performance and silly voices.
Do it together: Don’t just give a book to a child and expect he will read it in a day or two. Get involved with him while reading, and spare 10–15 minutes before bedtime to read a book together. Take turns reading aloud, discuss the characters and plot, and let your imaginations soar together.
The Library is Your Playground: Libraries are treasure troves of books, and most importantly, they’re FREE! Take regular trips to the library and let your child loose. Explore different sections, participate in story time, and pick out a mountain of books to bring home.
Keep it short but consistent: Remember children’s focus period is too short than an adult’s. You can read a book in a day but a kid will lose attention most likely after 20 mins. So the best way to follow is to read the book in parts and stay consistent. Make this a daily habit thus leading your small steps into forming a real habit.
By incorporating these simple tips into your routine, you’ll be well on your way to raising a bookworm and fostering a lifelong love of reading in your child.
